What exactly does that mean? I know what Mom meant, "straighten up and act right." But really, is there a catagory of actions and dress apparel that has your specific age attached to it? No way, I mean no there isn't. Sometimes when I visit my family, my grandson, who will be seven in a couple of weeks, will come up with words and statements way beyond his years. Talk about who is teaching who. Then you have a brand new train set up and guess who is huddled around checking it out. Playing actually is what they are doing and it's not a group of kids. Not little anyway. These are just a couple of examples but I think Mom was actually saying something all together different, but important. Be responsible. There are situations that require a more undivided and mature evaluation and I respect that. Kids need to understand that and that you are trying to help them. Teaching moments aren't age categorized either. "Out of the mouths of babes..." and we are taught. So, be free but be responsible. Be happy.
