Hey everybody out there know what sorghum is? It's a syrup cooked like molasses to go over buttered biscuits or baked in cookies and cakes. This past weekend I got to volunteer at the festival. I began with baking 26 dozen sorghum cookies that were handed out. It had been a while since I worked with that many sheet pans. Whew. Then, the following morning I got to butter hot biscuits and drizzle sorghum for awaiting visitors. Some had never tasted sorghum and others were reminded of earlier days with fond memories. The morning started off at 36 degrees, but everyone was soon warmed up with the goodness of sorghum. Come and see us next year and enjoy the process from cane to the finished cooked product. We kept the mule moving by providing a biscuit now and then. Fresh ground corn meal was demonstrated and the kids could make their own rope to carry home. Crafters brought hand crafted decorations, homemade canned goods all to wonderful music playing from the porch of the homestead. Sounds like fun, right? Watch for next year's calendar and mark it-Sorghum Festival, Mt Ida, Arkansas.
